If you’re studying to be an EMT, you may have a million things running through your mind. Not all of these thoughts may be positive. So how do you improve the quality of our thoughts so that you can structure your EMS studies for the most positive result?

Enter the growth mindset.

What is a growth mindset? It’s a way of thinking that relieves the heaviness of negative thinking. It’s taking control of the present moment by believing in your ability as an EMT student. When you want to tune into that growth mindset, take deep breaths and put your attention into your studies. It’s about effort and consistency. You can start small by merely envisioning your future as an EMT. How will you feel when you save someone’s life? How energized will you feel when someone genuinely thanks you for caring for them? These are thoughts to consider to help you set study goals.

Let go of fear of failure.

Process your fatigue in a healthy way by letting go of the worst case scenario. Failing the big exam is scary but it’s not the end off the world. There are days you will feel behind— forgive yourself and try again tomorrow. At the end of the day, we’re doing our best with what we have. Don’t feel bad about asking your instructors for extra help. I mean, that is their job however. 🙂 It’s a good idea to find a mentor that will help you along the way.

Mindfulness is key.

Use your senses to refocus on studying. Don’t let yourself get carried away with partying on nights you should be hunkering down in front of your notes. I’m not trying to lecture you! I’m trying to guide you towards what you really want— to help save lives.

Thanks for following along. Until next time!
