Hey readers, Amanda here with an informative blogpost that could save a life. Being an EMT is more than taking vitals and helping the injured. It’s about being prepared for any hazard ahead.
Are you ready to learn the vital task every EMT should complete every single day? It’s a simple task that is oftentimes overlooked. Can you guess what I’m talking about?
The vital task is this: You need to double check the ambulance and all of your tools before you start the shift. This is completely necessary to ensure the wellbeing of your patients.
So what checks do you need to make before your’e good to drive to a call? We’ve provided a few ideas below.
Here is your vital checklist;
Double check that your ambulance is clean and free of contaminants. You don’t want patients to lay down in a filthy ambulance. Ensure the ambulance is free from excrement, vomit, trash, and blood. These are all contaminants that can lead to infections in your patients. Make sure to wipe up any spills than can cause a patient to slip and hurt themselves.
Gather up your tools for the shift. Make sure they are clean, in working condition and charged. The tools you’ll need to bring along are a flashlight, stethoscope, tourniquet, pulse oximeter, blood pressure cuff, oxygen key, watch, and a pair of trauma shears. Don’t forget the notepad and pens. A power bank for your phone will save you on long shifts too.
If you like to be super prepared, check out CleanWaste’s portable toilets. They can save the day when you or your patient needs to use the restroom and have nowhere to stop. Technology in 2023, right?
Thanks for reading along, everyone! Let us know if we are missing any vital information! We’d love to see what ya’ll come up with.
